A Little Story…That Ends With A Burger

Polaroid tulips

This is going to be an “all over the place” post.  Just wanted to share some of my recent pics that I have been taking with my “new” Polaroid 779 film and my new medium format camera.  There’s a whole new area of food photography I want to explore.  Film just has this beautiful aesthetic about it that really can’t be replicated by digital.  So, let’s start the story with the weather…Sydney has had extremely mild temperatures all this week.  It seems spring has arrived early.  And I could definitely see it at the farmer’s markets the other day.  There were flowers everywhere and I purchased some yellow tulips and decorated the house.  Definitely a mood lifter!  I think they look wonderful and the yellow is such a pleasing colour to have around the house.

Seagull TLR fruits

I also bought some lemons (notice a yellow theme here?) and some not very “in season” tomatoes.  But hey!  If the weather wants to play around and act like it’s summer then I will too!

And I baked a delicious chocolate cake that I smothered in a chocolate and olive oil ganache. Chocolate is the ultimate comfort food.  Look out for the recipe later this week!

Polaroid burger

And today I made hamburgers!  Man, I couldn’t resist!  I love the versatility of hamburgers.  I made mine with beef mince that I seasoned with garlic, basil, fresh wholemeal breadcrumbs, a splash of worcestershire sauce and an egg.  Shape into thick patties and grill at your desired temperature.  I toasted my damper bun and filled it with spinach leaves, those tomatoes from the market, red onions and lashings of Dijon mustard.  I love this mustard!  I love it even more when I take a bite and it drips right down my chin!  Ok..that was a slight lie!

Delicious!  Stay safe and be happy!  Enjoy your weekend folks!

Like the shots from the Poloroid a great deal. But for me a burger is best when dressed with an egg.

Your pictures are incredibly beautiful and have a wonderful melancolic atmosphere! You are very talented!

Hamburgers are irresistible! Yours looks so yummy! My favorite mustard is from Germany (Bavaria) and Sweden…

Cheers,

Rosa

Gorgeous, gorgeous photos. I particularly enjoy how the greens surround the burger like the frilliest skirt.

Those are amazing photos. I’ve never really experimented with film, besides when it was the norm. It looks brilliant here though. well done!

These photographs are absolutely breathtaking. I have a Polaroid One600 and the photos never come out as great because of the annoying built-in flash. Anyhow, that is one good-looking burger.

The photos are very intriguing Peter. Hoe better to end your day with a burger on the barbie. Some day I would like to attempt what I have read about an Australian Burger made with a fried egg and pineapple.

Really great, shots Peter! Looks like you’ve been eating well, too. :) I love tulips – they’re my favorite flower.

Maille is my fav brand of dijon too! Love the styling of the mustard dribbling down the burger, very cute!

That is how I imagine gourmet food looked in the 1970s. I can visualize a pretty, straw-haired boy gazing out a window through gauzy curtains on an overcast Sunday morning, the smell of coffee and the sound of eggs frying.

Isn’t this weather just fantastic, we are very lucky and it is the best mood booster. Yesterday the rain put me in the worst mood (although a nice meal and lots of wine at Almond Bar soothed those feelings)…. but today the sun was out and I was bopping around, so I can relate to your post….too bad I was stuck in the office…otherwise I would have been out and about.
