cinnamon tea

“Baby its cold ouside”…”raindrops keep falling on my head”…you get the idea!  Its freezing outside and those of us that are folically challenged can really feel the cold. In order to keep warm and toasty I’ve been making my new favourite beverage.  Cinnamon tea.  A lot of people share a love/hate relationship with cinnamon.  How could you possibly not like it?  It’s spicy, warm and the aroma is to die for.  It’s fantastic in desserts and widely used in Middle Eastern and Indian cooking.  Personally, I love it.  Here’s my take on using it in a drink.

cinnamon tea

RECIPE FOR CINNAMON TEA

  • 2 cups of water
  • 3-4 cinnamon sticks
  • teabags
  • sugar
  • lemon (optional)

In a teapot or saucepan, combine the cinnamon sticks and water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 12-15 minutes. Bring back to a boil and pour into cups with a teabag.   I like mine sweet so I add two teaspons of sugar (I know..my bad!).  Also you may prefer your tea really strong.  In that case use 2 teabags.  Lemon is entirely optional.

Sip, savour, lick lips and enjoy!

Pete, I can imagine the aroma alone providing warmth and comfort and the sticks make for easy stirring!

I LOVE Cinnamon!! And love it in tea too, drink it a lot especially if my stomach hurts. My grandma used to recommend it for digestive problems or nausea hehe…
If you’re interested in knowing, there is this FABULOUS M.Eastern tea preparation which is black tea + cinnamon + ginger with chunks of walnuts floating inside. It’s fantastic- a tea preparation to indulge in!

Peter, we do this kind of tea in Cyprus and it’s my favourite as well. The only difference is that we also add some cloves with the cinnamon sticks.

I used to drink a cinnamon tea that I loved when I was a kid. I never thought to make it from scratch (although I have made chai before). :)

Peter, cinnamon has got to be one of my favourite flavours. Sounds like a tea that i could enjoy in the cooler weather and will give it a shot. Thanks for sharing. :) Stay warm…

Would it be all right to add milk instead? It just reminded me a lovely tiny cup of ginger tea (with milk) that I had when I was in India…

Terrific idea. I love cinnamon, but have yet to try it in a tea this way. Lemon sounds like a good addition too.

good tea. in you want more cinnamon (or only have 1 stick left) just give a quick zest to the stick.

Definitely share your love for cinnamon:) Especially with tea it works quite well, and mixed with a few additional spices it can be quite warming. Will have to try your recipe out:)
