I’m still here!
By Peter G • Jul 2nd, 2008 • Category: PersonalHello! Is there anyone there? You’re probably asking the same thing of me! Its been an interesting few weeks. Where do I begin?
Ok. I was ill for about a week after having a “questionable” satay in a South East Asian country. I swear I had no idea the tiles on my bathroom floor were that clean. During my recovery I decided to take a few days off from writing and photographing to “recharge” my batteries. Sometimes, blogging can really take up a lot of time as a lot of people know. The moment it becomes a “chore” I just have to back off. During my recouperation and rest, I thought long and hard about the blog platform I was using. I wasn’t really enjoying using it. It took forever to get my posts online and somehow I felt I was being “left behind”. (The software actually creates great websites but really lacks in the blogging arena). So I looked at Wordpress as a system to explore my food blogging. Needless to say I was hooked. I tested it locally and played around with a few ideas and decided I was to organise the blog as a content management system.
That was the easy part. The next part required me to import all my posts into Wordpress. That worked like a breeze too. However, my urls had changed which then meant I had to redirect EVERY single post, permalink and picture! That part wasn’t easy. I had to physically re upload all my pictures and retype all the permalinks so people didn’t get lost and google had to know I was still here. That took me five whole days and nights! It is something I never want to wish on anyone.
The old content is still here its just organised differently. Very much like an online magazine/newspaper site. The only thing I couldn’t import were the comments. All 998 of them. They were mangaed by a third party and there was no way to bring them in!
I also want to apologise to everyone that I frequent on a regular basis. Sorry I couldn’t come by. This project consumed the last 3 weeks of my life! I’m also sorry that I couldn’t enter the few events in the blogosphere that I really love, namely the Royal Foodie Joust and Elly’s Eat to the Beat.
I will be tweaking the site in the next few days so there might be a bit of “unusual” behaviour but I think everything is under control. I hope you like the new layout and the colours. I’m still not 100% sure about the green. I do however want to hear your feedback as its always welcome. I’m also “planning” on doing “foodcasts” a.k.a as podcasts. I think its a great way to get “personal” with you all and I plan on announcing my ideas about these in the next few weeks.
Cheers and happy eating!

Hello! I am quite new here but this site looks good and it is easy to navigate, not that the previous one was difficult. Looking forward to some more recipes and I am glad to hear that you are feeling better
Whoa, you went with the layout Ben has. Now how will I know where to find the new stuff? Will I still get updates via email? Oh god, how I fear change!!!!
Glad you had safe adventures, Peter, and welcome home. Can’t wait to sift through all the photos.
Peter, I’m so sorry to hear you were sick - it sounds miserable. Glad you’re better. I wondered how much work it must have been to create your beautiful new site, which I really like. My computer always had a hard time loading your other site, so it is also quite happy you’ve made the change. Congratulations on getting it all done and doing such a good job.
Hi Peter! Good to “see” you again. The new site looks great! I got this new post in my reader, so I am hoping that means I will get all new posts from your blog (from all the categories)? Hope so! I will explore a little more tonight, lol.
I am so glad you are back. Kaloriziko!!! Your site looks great but only took a quick glimpse and shall explore it further. I was about to change my blog into something much better but the only thing that held me back was all the job I had to do. Suddenly I feel envious and want to do this again (just joking). Your pictures look great.
Phew! I was starting to get a bit worried! Good luck with moving your site though - I moved from blogger to wordpress about 9 months ago now and have never looked back. I think if you are fed up with what you were using then wordpress is a great choice - I don’t have any complaints.
Cool, I like the new format! I’ve been thinking about doing something similar, so I can throw in restaurant reviews and event coverage without interrupting the flow of recipes.
Welcome back Dude!
So good to have you back. I can tell now, it worth every minute of the waiting. Hope it all works well!
Welcome to the wide wonderful world of WordPress! It can be an addiction, as I well know (what with running 5 different blogs, all of them on WordPress…) I hope it makes your life much more enjoyable!
Hello, P!! Uhm… one of the countries? Hope not mine hehehe… Great to hear the PS! Great new layout and welcome back! Cheers.
Glad to have you back Peter. I LOVE the new format, everything looks so professional with Wordpress:D
Hi Peter, welcome back to the blogosphere too. I can see how busy you must be. What a nice and fresh new look BTW. However, when I tried to go to your main website just now and it didn’t work. It could be because something wrong with my internet. You may want to check it out.
I totally understand the blog feeling like a “chore” thing- thats what I had been feeling a while back too. Also your point about this new look having a magazine feel- that was exactly my first impression when I clicked on here… It seriously looks great, and looking fwd to the rest!
Your new site looks amazing! Well done
