This might be a stupid question but...do you drain the cannellini beans first or do you just chuck the whole can into the pan!?

I ran across this post on Google as I had some black beans that I had soaking overnight and till this afternoon. Your recipe looked good and so I modified it to meet my needs. I've never tried Greek cooking so this was my first attempt... I used my black beans and substituted diced ham for the bacon... Nice bean soup recipe...

Hi Prudent Homemaker - Passata is a cooked tomato concentrate. Another example is: Passata is ripe tomatoes, pureed and then sieved to remove the skin and seeds. It's thinner than a paste and a bit thicker than a juice. You can find bottles of it with the pasta sauces in the supermarket or make your own with tins of tomatoes. It's good to use when you want that tomato flavor but not the bits and pieces.(beautifully explained by denada on Taste.com.au forum.

I am not familiar with "passata" or haricot beans. In France, "haricot" meant what I call green beans. I know what cannelli beans are; perhaps your haricot is what we call great northern beans here in the U.S.

But passata is a new word to me. Could you fill me in?

I know exactly what you mean by "lazy" when it comes to beans... Soaking and first-cooking dried beans is never fun and if there are canned beans around, I'll opt for them. As for fassolada, it has to be one of my all-time fave autumn/winter comfort dishes. Thanks for sharing.
