We’re off to El Salvador this week!  Joan from Foodalogue is hosting her Culinary Tour that takes us “South of The Border“.  Head on over there and join us in this virtual culinary feast.  This week proved quite challenging as I was running out of time but I still managed to come up with something sweet and delicious.  El Salvador literally

Cherry Clafoutis

Instead of making this dessert during cherry season, I made it a few months ago when cherries were not in season.  Why?  At the time I was a little over the cooler weather we were experiencing and wanted to give my spirits a little lift.  The bad thing about doing such things is paying a premium for the cherries!  In Australia, these are best enjoyed during the summer time especially

There really is no better way to describe this cake.  The orange flavour is so intense and for those of you who love citrus, you’ll be reaching for a second slice.  Along with a few other ingredients, it contains two whole boiled oranges, and almond meal.  It’s dense, moist and contains no flour at all.   My recipe today comes straight out of Stephanie Alexander’s, “The Cook’s Companion”.  A.k.a the Australian [...]

It’s been a few weeks!  But I’m here today and ready to showcase a wonderful and simple dessert I prepared a little while back.  With all the rain and grey skies present I thought I would cheer up my mood (and my friends) with something “pretty in pink”.   Nothing wrong with admitting you like pink, by the way!  Add some simple flowers to the equation and voila!  Instant cheer.  I’m [...]

Ryzogalo

“Ryzogalo” is the Greek version of rice pudding.  Literally translated it means “rice milk” (ryzo=rice and galo=milk).   It’s something I always remember from my childhood years and I enjoy it even more as an adult.  It’s comforting, creamy and wholesome (just like me!).  My mother made this on a regular basis and I remember running in after school and helping myself to a very warm bowl.  One whiff of [...]

Strawberries and Mascarpone…a great marriage I’m continuing with my romantic desserts again. But even if you don’t feel the “love” you can still cook them and enjoy them anyway. I hope you enjoyed the panacotta I dished up yesterday. Today’s sexy dessert marries two of those ingredients that again were destined to be together. Strawberries and mascarpone. I mean who doesn’t love strawberries? They taste fantastic and you can do [...]
