Flat Egg Noodles with Loukaniko and Prawns

By Peter G • Aug 25th, 2008 • Category: Greek Food, Recipes

This is a simple “throw everything together” kind of pasta dish that I enjoyed a few weeks ago and only got around to posting now.  Remember when I prepared last month’s Joust entry and I used prawns?  Well I had so may leftover that I had to use them quickly.  A great idea came to [...]

Loukaniko

By Peter G • Aug 15th, 2008 • Category: Greek Food, Recipes

“Loukaniko” is the Greek word for sausage.  The best way for me to describe it would be to compare it to the Spanish chorizo, without any offence to the Spaniards.  Loukaniko is full of porky goodness (Heather are you listening?…LOL!) often flavoured with fennel seeds or orange peel.  It’s a dry sausage and its usually [...]

Time For A Coffee…

By Peter G • Jul 28th, 2008 • Category: Personal

This is going to be a “mish mash” of a post.  I have a few people to thank and answer a meme (sort of!).  So, sit back, relax and have a “cuppa” with me.  Speaking of, I find I’m drinking way too much coffee these days.  I really can’t help it.  I never start my [...]

Pastitso

By Peter G • Jul 8th, 2008 • Category: Greek Food, Recipes

This ladies and gentlemen is one of my favourite comfort foods! Baked pasta, Greek style aka as “pastitso”. A bit of a pain to assemble often resulting in a chaotic kitchen but absolutely delicious. I used to crave this all the time as a kid, requesting it be cooked at least once a week. At greek buffets (relatives’ houses…LOL) it was the first thing on my plate. I sort of see it as a grown up version of pasta bolognaise. The bechamel topping gives it that extra lift and transforms it into something else!

Tsourekia and Eggs

This Sunday coming, Greeks all over the world will be celebrating Easter. Its a very big event in Greek culture with many traditions and religious rituals. There’s Lent with the fasting, the many cakes, breads, biscuits and of course the dyed eggs. Its a wonderful time with Easter Sunday being [...]

Greek style steak sandwich…with tzatziki
Woah! The tzatziki recipe I posted the other day certainly had a lot of “passionate” responses. It was good to see. Everyone loves their food and has a particular way of preparing tzatziki. I learnt a few things myself and this is why I love blogging. [...]

Tzatziki

By Peter G • Jan 9th, 2008 • Category: Greek Food, Recipes

Creamy, cooling and very luscious.
Tzatziki is probably one of Greece’s most famous dips. It utilises ingredients which are plentiful in that country. We’re talking thick, creamy sheep’s milk yougurt. Crisp, cooling cucumbers. And loads of garlic. Its commonly used in souvlaki that are served in many restaurants and it [...]

Bread Salad

Bread Salad
With the warmer weather finally making an impact here in Sydney, it’s only appropriate to be whipping up so many salads. I mean how easy and simple. Following the KISS principle and relying on good quality produce, you really can’t fail. I had often heard about the Italian bread salad called [...]

Spanakopita OR Spinach and Fetta Pie

Spanakopita…A Greek classic
I haven’t really ventured into much Greek food cooking on this blog. I constantly get asked about the title of my blog/website and how this relates to me. Well you can read a little about it here. I promise to provide a few more greek recipes as I go along. [...]

THE HOLY TRINITY

By Peter G • Feb 10th, 2007 • Category: Greek Food, Recipes

What you are seeing above is the Holy Trinity. Well, not in a religious sense of course. This is the Holy Trinity of Greek cooking and food. These 3 ingredients make a very huge impact on the way Greek food is prepared. Lemon juice, olive oil and oregano. Or “rigani” [...]
