Baked Beef Ragu

By Peter G • Jun 24th, 2009 • Category: Recipes

With the colder weather in full swing I’ve been further experimenting with slow braises and casseroles.  The above dish is a result from playing around in the kitchen.  As I stated in my beef stifado recipe I like to use chuck steak in my casserole cooking.  It’s a cheap cut of meat, with a good [...]

Orzo Salad

By Peter G • Mar 22nd, 2009 • Category: Greek Food, Recipes

The weather’s still hovering around the late 20’s here in Sydney.  This has given us the opportunity to still enjoy summer fare however I’m really craving for some autumn food!  Will I ever be satisfied?  Probably not!  Anyway, I just wanted to share a very quick and easy meal I made the other day.  I’m [...]

Vegetarian Pastitsio “Pies”

By Peter G • Mar 1st, 2009 • Category: Greek Food, Recipes

Ever since I saw Laurie’s version of pastitsio with greens I had it bookmarked, waiting for the perfect opportunity to recreate it.  Well, the opportunity arose this month with the announcement of Anotnio Tahan’s “A Taste Of The Mediterranean” event.  This event which is co-hosted by Peter from Kalofagas encourages bloggers to make a twist [...]

Spaghetti and Meatballs

By Peter G • Sep 26th, 2008 • Category: Recipes

Is there anything more comforting than a (large..hey I’m greedy!) bowl of pasta?  Some of you may argue that chocolate is more comforting but my taste buds would definitely pick the savoury dish.  I love the versatility of pasta and spaghetti is my favourite.  Thick or thin, it’s always enjoyed voraciously.  I’m sure everyone has [...]

Flat Egg Noodles with Loukaniko and Prawns

By Peter G • Aug 25th, 2008 • Category: Greek Food, Recipes

This is a simple “throw everything together” kind of pasta dish that I enjoyed a few weeks ago and only got around to posting now.  Remember when I prepared last month’s Joust entry and I used prawns?  Well I had so may leftover that I had to use them quickly.  A great idea came to [...]

Pastitso

By Peter G • Jul 8th, 2008 • Category: Greek Food, Recipes

This ladies and gentlemen is one of my favourite comfort foods! Baked pasta, Greek style aka as “pastitso”. A bit of a pain to assemble often resulting in a chaotic kitchen but absolutely delicious. I used to crave this all the time as a kid, requesting it be cooked at least once a week. At greek buffets (relatives’ houses…LOL) it was the first thing on my plate. I sort of see it as a grown up version of pasta bolognaise. The bechamel topping gives it that extra lift and transforms it into something else!

Pasta with Greens

Fresh wholemeal linguine with asparagus, peas, spinach and mint.
I try to eat healthy. I swear I do. I try to incorporate a well balanced eating routine but I find that during the “silly” season (Xmas and New Year) things can get a little hectic on the food front. Second helpings and extra [...]

Quick Pasta

My own creation…all lying about in the fridge
Yours truly was looking in the fridge yesterday, trying to decide what to eat for dinner. I’m sure this routine is repeated everywhere in the world, no matter where you are. You open the fridge, you look, you think you have a solution and then you [...]
