Portokalopita Greek Orange  Phyllo Cake

INGREDIENTS

Combine

Combine the water, sugar, orange juice and zest to make the syrup. Once cooked allow to cool completely.

Tear

Tear up or crush the dried phyllo sheets into smaller pieces.

Combine

Combine the remainder of the portokalopita ingredients in a separate bowl to make the batter.

Pour

Pour the batter into the bowl with the torn, dried phyllo pieces.

Mix

Mix the dried phyllo pieces along with the batter - ensuring it is mixed well.

Pour

Pour the cake batter into baking dish and smooth out the top and bake.

Syrup

When the portokalopita is cooked, score it lightly and pour the cold syrup over it.

Serve

Once cooled and the syrup has been absorbed serve with ice cream.
